For those of you I have not met, my name is Jeff Marsigli, and I’m honored to serve as your elected District Attorney for Nash, Wilson, and Edgecombe Counties. I’ve had that privilege for the last three years, and I’m running for re-election in November 2026! I’ve practiced law in these three counties for more than 23 years. Before becoming District Attorney, I worked on both sides of the courtroom; as a criminal defense attorney and as an Assistant District Attorney. That experience shaped who I am as a prosecutor. I understand the system from both angles, and I understand the responsibility that comes with this office.

 

I don’t just work here - I was raised here & raise my children here. I grew up in Rocky Mount. I live in Wilson today. I have family across Nash, Wilson, and Edgecombe counties. These are the roads I drive, the schools my children and neighbors attend, and the communities I care deeply about. That means when decisions are made in my office, they aren’t abstract - they affect people I know and places I care about.

 

Let me take a moment to explain what the District Attorney’s office actually does, because it matters. Our office prosecutes every criminal case in these three counties - from misdemeanors all the way up to the most serious felonies. We work hand-in-hand with law enforcement to hold offenders accountable, protect victims, and keep our communities safe. We oversee Assistant District Attorneys and staff, setting the standard for fairness, integrity, and professionalism. And every single day, we use judgment and discretion to focus our resources where they matter most - violent crime, repeat offenders, and protecting families.

 

Our office becomes involved the moment a case is charged and from that point on, people rely on us to move the process forward fairly, efficiently, and responsibly. When I ran for this office three years ago, I made a promise. I said I believed in participation, partnership, and being proactive. I said we would fight crime together, not from behind a desk, but shoulder to shoulder with law enforcement and the community. And that’s exactly how I’ve approached this role.

I am a working District Attorney. I’m not just managing spreadsheets or sitting in an office. I’m in court handling cases ranging from traffic court to murder trials and everything in between. I do that because 1. I enjoy it and 2. I believe leadership means never asking your team to do something you wouldn’t do yourself.

 

Integrity has been my guiding principle. You might not always like what I tell you — but you will always get the truth.

For the first time, our office is aggressively fighting the fentanyl crisis in the courtroom. We are prosecuting these cases, holding dealers accountable, and sending a clear message thatpoisoning our communities will not be tolerated. These cases are complex, they are difficult, and they matter — and we are seeing more of them coming through the system every day.

 

When I took office, I felt it was important to adjust our felony prosecution process. Victims were waiting too long. Defendants were waiting too long. Justice delayed is justice denied. Working together with our court partners, we added a weekly H&I court session and restructured how we move cases. As a result, we have significantly reduced the time it takes for serious cases to reach resolution, giving victims answers sooner and restoring confidence in the system. We are now ranked top 5 in the state!

 Why does that matter to you?  Because safer communities require a justice system that works — not one that stalls. I’m proud of the team we’ve built. They are smart, capable, and committed public servants. We work together. We support one another. And again — I don’t expect anyone in this office to do something I wouldn’t do myself. Relationships matter in this role. Strong relationships with law enforcement, the courts, and the community are essential. Being proactive matters too. I meet regularly with law enforcement and state partners like the SBI to share information, identify trends, and develop strategies to get dangerous offenders off our streets. And my door is always open — for ideas, concerns, and collaboration.  I can say this honestly: I’ve done what I said I was going to do.  And at the same time, I know there is always more work to be done. There is always room to improve.

 

We must continue to participate.

We must continue to partner with law enforcement and our communities.

And we must continue to be proactive to keep our families, friends, and neighbors safe.

 

Fighting Crime Together is not just a slogan for me. It’s how I do this job — every single day. I’m asking for your vote in November so I can continue the work this team has started. And I’m asking you to bring a friend with you. When that friend tells you their vote doesn’t really matter, remind them of this: in the last District Attorney election across these three counties, 76,685 people voted — and I won by just 79 votes.
